Shaina Nitura of the Adamson University Lady Falcons broke scoring records when she recorded 38 points in her team’s heartbreaking 15-25, 25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 10-15 loss against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
Nitura broke the record previously held by Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagle Alyssa Valdez and University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigress Sisi Rondina, who both scored 35 points in separate games.
Valdez recorded hers against the Lady Falcons in UAAP Season 75, while Rondina scored hers against the Lady Eagles in Season 81.

The National University Lady Bulldogs had 71 attack points as they finished the first round of eliminations with a hard-fought win against the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 15-9, on Sunday, March 16. In comparison, the España-based squad only had 44 attack points.
Alyssa Solomon led the high-power team with 24 points on 21 attacks and three blocks, while Bella Belen had 19 points with 17 excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions. Vange Alinsung contributed 17 points, while Erin Pangilinan added 12. On the side of the Golden Tigresses, Reg Jurado was the top scorer with 16 points, while outside hidden Angeline Poyos had 13 points. Reigning best setter Cassie Carballo added 10 points with 27 excellent sets.
Despite their flawless record, Lady Bulldogs head coach Sherwin Menses hoped his team can polish their lapses as they enter the second round of eliminations. He said, “Masaya kami kasi na-experience namin ‘yung ganitong labanan. Talagang hindi rin magpapatalo ‘yung UST, happy ako na talagang naka-recover kami. Hopefully, ma-polish pa namin ‘yung lapses namin.”
The Lady Bulldogs keep their spotless record with seven wins, while the Golden Tigresses sit at third place with a 5-2 win-loss record.

Adamson University Lady Falcons rookie-captain Shaina Nitura broke records when she scored 38 points, but her efforts went to waste as her team suffered a heart-breaking 15-25, 25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 10-15 loss against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Sunday, March 16.
Nitura’s 38-point explosion is now the most points scored in UAAP Women’s Volleyball, shattering the record of 35 points by Alyssa Valdez and Sisi Rondina. Jimmy Jamili contributed 18 points in Adamson’s loss. On the side of the Fighting Maroons, Niña Ytang scored a team-high 20 points, while Irah Jaboneta contributed 19. Kianne Olango and Joan Monares added 15 points apiece.
Fighting Maroons head coach Benson Bocboc was relieved that his team managed to stay amidst Nitura’s historic output. He said, “Siguro, given na ‘yun si Nitura, possible talaga can score that many points, even more pa depende sa close ng laro. Pero with UP, tulong-tulong talaga kasi ‘yun ‘yung binabantayan namin sa kanila, kapag may nawawala doon sa plano, binabalik lang namin sila kasi we need to work as a group talaga.”
With the victory, the Fighting Maroons rose to the fifth spot with a 3-4 win-loss card, while Adamson dropped to seventh with a 2-5 record.

The De La Salle University Lady Archers only needed an hour and 21 minutes to defeat the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in straight sets, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22, on Saturday, March 15.
Shevana Laput led the Lady Archers with 22 points, while Alleiah Malaluan and Angel Canino combined for 22 markers. On the side of the Lady Tamaraws, no players scored in double digits as Faida Bakanke was limited to just nine points.
Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus commended his team’s focus until the end of the game. He said, “Happy ako kasi kahit hindi kami halos nakapagpahinga and then halos wala kami time para mag-aral para sa FEU, at least doon sa short time na ‘yun, nagawa nila ‘yung mga pinag-aralan namin at nakasunod sila doon sa game plan. ‘Yung focus nila, nandoon pa rin hanggang sa matapos ‘yung game.”
At the end of the first round of eliminations, the Lady Archers currently sit at the second spot with a 5-2 win-loss record, while the Lady Tamaraws are in fourth with a 4-3 card.

Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagle Alexis Miner had a 23-point performance in her team’s 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15, 15-13 victory against the University of the East Lady Red Warriors on Saturday, March 15.
Miner had help from team captain Lyann de Guzman and Zey Pacia, who both scored 17 points, while Jihan Chuatico had 10. On the side of the Lady Red Warriors, Nessa Bangayan delivered a game-high 24 points, while Riza Nogales and KC Cepada combined for 24 points.
As they ended the eliminations on a high note, Lady Eagles head coach Sergio Veloso wanted his girls to play at the highest level at all times. He said, “From this point on, the most important thing is that they continue to play on a high level all the time. I’m so proud because they understand that they have to push through.”
The Lady Eagles currently sit at sixth spot with a 2-5 win-loss record, while the Lady Red Warriors are at the bottom of the standings with seven losses.

The one-two combo of the De La Salle University Lady Spikers – Shevana Laput and Angel Canino – combined for 42 points in their team’s 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-19 win against rival Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on Wednesday, March 12.
Laput had 25 points on 19 attacks, three blocks, and three aces, while Canino delivered 17 points on 13 attacks and four blocks. Alleliah Malaluan also scored in double figures with 12 points. On the side of the Lady Eagles, team captain Lyann de Guzman had 16 points on 13 attacks and three aces, while Alexis Miner added 13 on 11 attacks and two blocks.
Despite dropping the third set, Lady Spikers head coach Ramil de Jesus reminded his team to believe in themselves. He said, ‘Ni-remind ko lang sila na kailangan, sa ganung klaseng sitwasyon, nangingibabaw ‘yung tibay ng dibdib kasi nung third set, nagkaroon ng errors and may sumunod, merong hindi naka-control sa sarili, and then, ayun na. Sa fourth set, ni-remind ko lang na kailangan maniwala [sila] sa kanya [nilang] gawin.”

Alyssa Solomon showed no mercy as she scored 22 points in National University Lady Bulldogs straight-set, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 win against the Adamson University Lady Falcons on Wednesday, March 12.
Solomon was all over the scoring department with 15 attacks, four blocks, and three aces. Vange Alinsug contributed 12 points, as Bella Belen took the back seat with nine. On the side of the Lady Falcons, rookie-captain Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi both scored 13 points.
In the second round, Lady Bulldogs head coach Sherwin Meneses hopes his team can still improve as they defend the crown. He said, “I think, mag-i-improve pa naman ‘yung performance ng NU going to the second round.”
