UAAP Season 88 Power Rankings: NU Bulldogs Lead After First Round

The first round of UAAP Season 88 has been an absolute barnburner — full of surprises, momentum swings, and breakout performances — making it the perfect time for power rankings. Of course, this list reflects our own take, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section.

No. 8 – UE Red Warriors: Searching for Stability

Despite finishing the first round winless at 0-7, the Chris Gavina-coached UE Red Warriors have enough talent to make some noise in the second round and possibly pull off an upset or two.

However, with Gavina suspended for three more games and Wello Lingolingo sidelined for two, the team will need to rely heavily on John Abate and Precious Momowei to avoid a disastrous 0-14 season.

No. 7 – FEU Tamaraws: Better Than Their Record Shows

FEU’s 1-6 record doesn’t tell the whole story. The Tamaraws came close to toppling Ateneo, La Salle, and UP in Round 1, showing flashes of potential.

Janrey Pasaol has been a revelation, and Mo Konateh continues to be a reliable double-double machine. Still, their Final Four hopes rest largely on whether Jorick Bautista can find consistency as a scorer.

No. 6 – Adamson Soaring Falcons: Back in the Flight Path

The Adamson Falcons finally looked like their true selves in their October 18 win over UST. Balanced on both ends — dangerous offensively and gritty defensively — Adamson sits at 3-4 and could tighten the Final Four race if they maintain this form.

No. 5 – Ateneo Blue Eagles: Regrouping for Round Two

After a blistering 4-0 start, the Blue Eagles hit a skid with three straight losses. While concerning, it’s worth noting they’ve already matched their total wins from Season 87.

With Jared Bahay avoiding shoulder surgery and the team historically improving in the second round under coach Tab Baldwin, Ateneo remains poised for a strong comeback.

No. 4 – DLSU Green Archers: Grit Behind the Growing Pains

Currently tied at 4-3 but behind Ateneo due to a minus-4 point differential, La Salle’s start has been shakier than expected.

Still, the losses of Kean Baclaan and Mason Amos seem to have energized the roster. Luis Pablo has flourished in his expanded role, while Jacob Cortez has embraced his place as the team’s top offensive weapon. If this trend continues, expect the Archers to post a 5-2 record in Round 2.

No. 3 – UP Fighting Maroons: Back in Contention

A 0-2 start raised early concerns, but the Fighting Maroons quickly found their rhythm behind new star Rhey Remogat. His integration into the system sparked a four-game winning streak that reminded everyone why UP remains a perennial contender.

With their trademark defense and renewed offensive flow, UP should remain in the hunt for a top-two finish.

No. 2 – UST Growling Tigers: Offense Firing on All Cylinders

The arrival of Collins Akowe has been a game-changer for UST. Alongside scoring leader Nic Cabanero, Akowe’s interior presence and energy have fueled the Tigers’ resurgence.

Forthsky Padrigao has also become a steady playmaker under coach Pido Jarencio, while Kyle Paranada provides reliable secondary scoring. The question now is whether their high-octane offense can sustain its pace through Round 2.

No. 1 – NU Bulldogs: The Team to Beat

Unsurprisingly, the NU Bulldogs take the top spot after Round 1.

Behind Paul Francisco’s overtime heroics against Ateneo on October 18, NU claimed solo first place with a 6-1 record. Jake Figueroa continues to display pro-level maturity, while Steve Nash Enriquez shines as both a floor general and defensive disruptor.

NU’s ability to close out tight games and rally from deficits sets them apart — and cements their status as early favorites to make the Season 88 Finals.
