Victor Wembanyama put on an absolute masterclass at home on Friday, delivering 38 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 blocks to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 121-106 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Wembanyama was 12-for-24 overall, 4-for-10 from downtown, and 10-for-11 from the charity stripe in yet another reminder to the league of how good he can be. But he wasn’t alone. De’Aaron Fox added 29 points, Julian Champagnie chipped in 16 markers on three triples, and Stephon Castle put up 11 points and 12 dimes.

Cade Cunningham had 26 points for Detroit but was just 10-for-26 from the field after being hounded by the Spurs’ swarming defense. Isaiah Stewart added 18 points for the Pistons, who finished their road trip with a win and two losses but remain atop the Eastern Conference.

Spurs Too Good for Pistons in Possible Finals Preview

Friday’s San Antonio-Detroit matchup was another possible NBA Finals preview as the Pistons are running away with the top spot in the wide-open East, while the Spurs are bearing down on the Oklahoma City Thunder for the top seed in the West. The Pistons and Spurs also have the second- and third-best records in the league at this point of the season.

Thus far, though, it’s looking like the Spurs are too good for the Pistons after sweeping Motor City in a span of two weeks. The two teams first met on February 24, and San Antonio came out on top, 114-103, in a game where Wembanyama and company throttled Cunningham into 5-for-26 shooting. The Spurs did the same on Friday and were even better, posting a wire-to-wire victory for their 13th win in their last 14 games.

San Antonio will look to continue its winning ways on Sunday with a clash against the Los Angeles Clippers. Detroit will try to bounce back on Monday when they face the Brooklyn Nets.
