In the second game of Steph Curry’s return from injury, the Golden State Warriors finally returned to the win column, notching a slim 110-105 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.
Still getting his sea legs back by coming off the bench, The Chef remained poised, tallying 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists, including two rare four-point plays in the second quarter.
“We’re doing great. It’s obviously great to win. No matter who we’re playing, we’re trying to build good habits,” Curry said postgame.
Warriors Back on Track, But It May Be Too Late
With the win, the Dubs snapped a four-game losing streak and recovered from a 3-7 stretch in the last 10 games. However, with only three games left in the regular season, it may have just been too little, too late.
The Warriors currently hold a 37-40 record, which means they will finish the season as a sub-.500 team. They also trail the Portland Trail Blazers by three games for the ninth seed, which would mean that one more loss will drop Golden State to the tenth seed, forcing them to win two consecutive away games just to reach the playoffs.
The Warriors also finished the 2023–24 NBA season as the 10th seed, but were eventually bounced out by the Sacramento Kings in a blowout loss.
Since its integration in 2021, the Miami Heat have been the only 10th seed to successfully enter the playoffs, but they were eventually swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Kings Lose Six Out of Last Eight Outings, But Future Looks Bright
With the loss, the Kings have now dropped two in a row, and have only won twice in their last eight games, as their lead playmaker Russell Westbrook continues to recover from a foot injury.
Amid the losses, however, Sacramento may have just found their big man for the future, as rookie Maxime Raynaud continues to be one of the bright spots in the Kings’ grim season, dropping 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Killian Hayes led the scoring department with 18 points off the bench.
The Warriors will look to keep their winning habits when they face the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, while the Kings will look to exact revenge when they face Golden State again on Saturday
