Another UE Red Warrior is leaving. This time, it is guard Wello Lingolingo, who has bid farewell to the UAAP to take his talents to the Benilde Blazers in the NCAA.
Wello, who improved his scoring in his four years as a Red Warrior, was one of the few bright spots during UE’s forgettable Season 88. The Recto-based squad went 0-14, but not for a lack of trying on the part of Lingolingo.
In Season 88, the talented guard averaged 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists as one of the focal points of UE’s offense, along with their foreign student-athlete, Precious Momowei.
From Red to Green for Lingolingo as Exits Hound UE
Lingolingo is now set to play for the Blazers in the NCAA, where he’ll be able to suit up in Season 103. He will likely assume a major role once he’s eligible, as Benilde’s main guard, Tony Ynot, is now a professional in the PBA.
Incidentally, Lingolingo isn’t the first Red Warrior to leave Recto. He’s actually the third after Precious Momowei and Nico Mulingtapang—and he might not be the last if the trend is any indication.
Back in January, Momowei left UE to join the CEU Scorpions in the UCAL. Shortly thereafter, Mulingtapang followed suit, exiting the UAAP completely to join the NCAA by way of—you guessed it!—Benilde. He and Lingolingo will, therefore, be reuniting at Taft after their transfers.
UE Program in Limbo?
With these player departures, one can only wonder about what’s going on in UE aside from having a losing program the past few years. These exits, for one, are sure to hamper the Red Warriors’ chances to field a better team for Season 89, as Lingolingo and Momowei, in particular, have been two of UE’s best players.
Now, one has to wonder, too, how UE can start its rebuild.
