WNBA Roundup: Suns Ends Losing Skid, Valkyries and Skies Recover, Mercury Hot Streak Continues

It was a jump packed WNBA action today, July 10 2025. The Connecticut Suns finally end their 10-game losing streak, both the Golden State Valkyries and the Chicago Skies bounce back after a loss while the Phoenix Mercury now has a 2-game winning streak.

Suns Puts An End to the Losing Streak

Despite being down by as much as 14-points in the 1st quarter, the Suns wield back to win their game against the 3rd seed from the West, Seattle Storm.

Bria Hartley was hot in the first half as she poured in 15 points before going into halftime. Down by only 8-points to begin the third frame, Saniya Rivers brought life back to the Suns as she made her own 8-0 run. But Skylar Diggins gets an and-1 basket before the 3rd quarter ends to give back the lead to Seattle, 73-66.

In the final quarter, Tina Charles gives Connecticut their first lead of the match, 79-77 with 5 minutes to go. Then, it was followed by clutch baskets by Jacy Sheldon, Leila Lacan as well as the clean steal by Rivers giving it to Charles to put the nail in the coffin.

Final Score: 93-83

Charles had a double-double in a win with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Sheldon had 16 points knocking down 4-6 shots from 3-pointers with 2 rebounds and 4 assists. Rivers also contributed 11 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and a much needed 4 steals.

For the side of the Storm, Diggins ended up with 23 points with 3 rebounds, 7 assists and a steal. Gabby Williams tallied 21 points and boards in a losing effort. 

The Suns get their 3rd victory of the season along with 16 losses and are dead last in the Eastern conference. They are set to face Seattle Storms again on July 12, Saturday. Meanwhile, Seattle suffers their 8th loss of the tournament but they have 12 wins.

Valkyries Wins the Game via 3-Point Shooting

After playing a tightly contested 1st quarter against the Indiana Fever, it was Tiffany Hayes and Veronica Burton of the Valkyries that made a 20-9 2nd quarter scoring.

Kayla Thornton, the star player of the Valkyries puts the silencer to any comeback as she makes a 3-pointer to build a 21-point lead with 3:57 to go. And it was a blowout victory after that despite Indiana having a homecourt advantage.

Final Score: 80-61

The Valkyries had 12-32 shooting from beyond the arc why the Fever only had 6-27. Burton, who has now reinserted herself as the 2nd scoring option for the league newest expansion team had a night. She ended up with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, a steal and was 5-6 from the rainbow territory.

Thornton had 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and all of the 10 players scored for them in this ball game.

Meanwhile the Indiana Fever wasn’t really going to win with Caitlin Clark shooting 4-of-12 from the field and scoring only 10 points. Kelsey Mitchell had a team high 12 points to go along with 3 rebounds, a steal, a block and a horrendous 3 turnovers.

Valkyries are now above .500 with 10-9 and are 4th team in the West. They are going to play against the Los Angeles Aces on July 13, Sunday. For Indiana, they suffer back to back losses now with a record of 9-10 but are still the #3 seed in the East and will play Atlanta Dream on July 12, Saturday.

Mercury Comes Out on Top in the #1 vs #2 Battle in the West

It was a close game between the Phoenix Mercury and Minnesota Lynx all throughout the match with no squad ever getting a double-digit lead. 

And despite being down by 7-points with 4:53 remaining in the ball game, Alyssa Thomas gave the lead to her team with 2 minutes to go as Phoenix got the win. They ended the game with a 19-4 run.

Final Score: 79-71

Thomas had a team high 29 points to go along with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Monique Makani followed her with 13 points and 4 assists.

For the side of Minnesota, Courtney Williams had 21 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal but had 4 turnovers. Napheesa Collier had 18 points, as well as 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 2 blocks. 

Phoenix still gets to be the #2 team in the West though with a record of 14-6 and will play the Valkyries next on July 15, Tuesday. Minnesota on the other hand are still on top of the West with 17-3 and will play the LA Sparks tomorrow, July 11.

Paige Bueckers Versus Angel Reese

It was the midrange offense of Bueckers against the paint scoring of Reese in the game of Dallas Wings versus the Chicago Skies.

In the end though, the consistency of Reese’s offensive game became vital in their win.

Final Score: 87-76

Reese ended up with another double-double performance with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with an assist and a block. Rebecca Allen scored a team high 27 points despite playing off the bench. Allen was even 5-of-7 from the 3-point area. She also recorded 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks.

On the side of Dallas, they went 0-3 in all of their meetings against Chicago this season. Paige tallied 17 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals but was limited to 5-of-20 from the field and was 0-4 from beyond the arc. Li Yueru had 18 points shooting 4-of-7 from deep and even got 10 rebounds and a block.

Dallas Wings goes 6-15 and are still dead last in the West with Indiana Fever next in their schedule on July 14, Monday. While for the Chicago Skies they’re now 6-13 and are the 5th team in the East. They’ll play the Minnesota Lynx on July 13, Sunday.
