Nothing is written in stone, that is how Tatiana Prozorova felt after getting the upset win against top seed Tatjana Maria in their Round of 16 match yesterday, 7(7)-6, 6-4
Unexpectedly Expected for Prozorova
Among the many surprises, this WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open also included four Pinay players who were in the Main Draw, but it was only Alex Eala that went through the next round.
“You know sometimes its very tough to say about some upsets on woman’s tournament. Because women’s tennis is very unexpected like that. Sometimes the most tops players are going to the semifinal or final. Sometimes the top seeds are just seasoned players who are out of the tournament in the first or second round.”
The world ranked No. 174 just beat the world ranked No. 48, which had made a tremendous noise throughout social media.
“Of course, this is just a tournament, just like in life, it happens.”
Relived After a Eliminating a Very Tough Player
If there’s a threat to the success of other players in this inaugural tournament, it would be 38-year-old Maria from Germany.
Luckily for them, the 22-year-old Russian had what it takes to overcome the challenge and eliminate the multi-time champion.
“My feeling right now that I can do the same match again today but I feel great.” she said with a smile on her face.
“Well I’m very happy that I’m going through the quarterfinals. Today’s match was really tough that Maria’s slice were very tough my very important goal was to focus on this slice and work with them and yes I did it, it was great.” she added.
The match between Prozorova and Sofia Costoulas will kickstart the quarterfinals games today at 2:00 PM at the Centre Court of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Nothing is Impossible for a Finals Trip
True enough, the destinies of these players haven’t been decided yet. And with Tatiana having such a low ranking in this tournament, this WTA 2026 might be her best one yet to announce her name to the entire world.
With the remaining superstar players like Alex Eala, Donna Vekic, and Solana Sierra still in the tournament, Prozorova can become the “giant slayer” in this competition.
