Head Coach of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Yeng Guiao, has voiced his thoughts on his lineup composition heading to the 50th Season of the PBA come October.
An “Upgrade” for the Elasto Painters
In an interview of Rebanse to Head Coach Yeng Guiao, he mentioned how acquiring veteran guard Stanley Pringle and drafting rookies in the PBA Draft 2025 is already an upgrade to them.
“We’re not looking at the Free Agency list anymore, we’re very happy with Stanley Pringle, we’re also expecting Louis Villegas na mag laro na and then we’ll see maybe there’s one or two rookies we drafted who can fit into the team. So tingin ko doon lang..upgrade na yun sa team.”
Rain or Shine has also still not figured out how to get past the Semifinals for the last 4 conferences and the former 2019 Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach is hopeful to get into the next level.
“4 na sunod na kaming semifinals so who knows baka sana magpunta na kami sa susunod na level which is the finals, let’s see.” he added
The “Semis Curse” Isn’ t All That Bad
Despite this “semifinals curse” for a franchise who has only won the championship twice, the veteran Head Coach has acknowledged how good his team is, noting that the consistent semis trip isn’t a bad thing at all since it entails consistency in their performance.
“I think the reason why we’re number 10 pick now yung natural order is because we were consistent with our performance this season. So the only 2 teams that are better than we are is yung TNT saka yung Ginebra eh dahil sila yung 11 and 12 eh.”
In the PBA Philippine Cup Season 48 which was last 2024, the San Miguel Beermen swept ROS in the semis 4-0. But despite the sweep, a lot of fans acknowledged that an independent team like the Elasto Painters can achieve success in the mid 2020’s.
For the following season, in the entire 3 conferences, ROS clinched a semis spot.
They suffered a gentleman’s sweep in the hands of TNT Tropang Giga in the 2024 Governor’s Cup and 2024-25 Commissioner’s Cup. In the 2025 Philippine Cup, they made it 4-2 but still lost against Chot Reyes and the rest of Tropang 5G.
