Yuki Kawamura brought some Yuki Mania to the G-League on Friday, proving to everyone why he’s so deserving of being in the NBA. Not only did he lead the Windy City Bulls to a dub over the Grand Rapids Gold, but the 5-foot-8 point guard also finished the game with a must-see stat line that impressed both fans and analysts.
In the matchup against Grand Rapids on Friday, Kawamura nearly went home with his first triple-double. The Japanese standout logged a 34-point, 16-assist double-double, his second of the season. As expected, most of his dimes were dished to three-time Slam Dunk champion Mac McClung, who also had an impressive night after finishing with 30 points on 50% shooting.
Despite being the smallest guy on the floor and in the NBA, Kawamura also grabbed 8 rebounds in that same game.
Yuki Kawamura Back in the Bulls’ Rotation?
Yuki Kawamura is currently on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls and is just one call away from getting picked up for some NBA minutes. Although he’s recently been a hot commodity with his impressive performances in the G-League, Kawamura is still buried deep in Chicago’s depth chart as a defensive liability. What makes his chances worse is the addition of a slew of guards like Jaden Ivey, Rob Dillingham, and Anfernee Simons, on top of the returning Josh Giddey.
Kawamura has played a total of four games with the Chicago Bulls so far, recording 20 points, 22 assists, 16 rebounds, and 5 steals.
However, his grit and grind are not going unnoticed. Despite his short frame, Kawamura has shown he has the playmaking ability and basketball IQ to become a rotation player. Not only that, but the Asian phenom has the heart and passion, making him already too good for the G-League. He’s also one of the most electrifying and most fun-to-watch point guards in the league.
But will that warrant a full-time call-up to the NBA? We shall see.
