Zamboanga Escapes Parañaque and Forces Do-or-Die Game 3, 2024 MPBL Playoffs

The Zamboanga Master Sardines survive in the quarterfinals of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season 6 Playoffs after walloping the Parañaque Patriots, 94-72, tying the best-of-three series, 1-1.

Zamboanga managed to force a game 3 at home after losing a close match against Parañaque in game 1.

The trio of MVP frontrunners Jaycee Marcelino, Pedrito “Bong” Galanza, and Renzo Subido scored a combined 54 points. In just 12 minutes of play, Bong Galanza, the best player of the game, finished with 20 points, including 5 of Zamboanga’s 13 made triples. Marcelino also tallied 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals while Subido chipped in 16 points and 4 dimes off the bench. Big man Joseph Gabayni also had a terrific night, finishing with 8 points and 13 rebounds.

Game 3’s schedule will be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, Quezon Makes It Look Easy after Sweeping Negros

The Quezon Huskers advance to the semifinals after a blowout win against the Negros Muscovados in game 2.

The Huskers’ scoring surge in the second half, led by Alfrancis Tamsi, Robin Roño, and RJ Minerva was too much for Negros. Tamsi recorded 15 points and 5 rebounds while Roño contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds. On the other hand, RJ Minerva impacted with 16 points.

The Huskers, who are the no.1 team in the South, will face the winner of the upcoming game 3 of the Zamboanga-Parañaque matchup.

  • Zamboanga Master Sardines vs. Parañaque Patriots (94-72)
