Zus Coffee Sweeps Galeries for Back-to-Back Wins
A week after their historic first win in the PVL, the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles were back at it, sweeping the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19, for their second win in a row.
Chinnie Arroyo paced the Thunderbelles with 14 points built on 11 attacks, 2 aces, and a block to earn Player of the Game honors. Chai Troncoso added 11 points and 8 excellent receptions, while rookie Thea Gagate added 9 markers.
France Ronquillo and Roselle Baliton scored 12 points apiece for the Highrisers, who put up a gallant stand in the first but buckled afterward as the Thunderbelles picked up their play.
The win propelled Zus Coffee to third place in the standings. It will next face another winless team, the Farm Fresh Foxies, on December 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Galeries will look to avoid a fifth straight loss against the Capital1 Solar Spikers on December 7 in Cebu.
Cignal Repels Choco Mucho to Gain Share of the Early Lead
The Cignal HD Spikers continued their stellar play in the PVL All-Filipino Conference, overcoming the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, for their third straight win.
Cignal leaned on a balanced attack, with Jackie Acuña and Ces Molina firing 14 and 13 markers, respectively, and Vanie Gandler and Ria Meneses contributing 10 apiece. Tying things together was the poised playmaking of setter Gel Cayuna, who recorded 16 excellent sets to go along with 11 points built on 5 attacks.
Sisi Rondina tallied 24 huge points for the Flying Titans, who pushed the HD Spikers in the last two sets and very nearly sent the match to a fifth-set decider.
The HD Spikers shoot for a fourth straight win against the Nxled Chameleons on December 7 in Cebu. Choco Mucho, which dropped to 2-2, will need to regroup fast as it next takes on the 2-0 Creamline Cool Smashers on December 3 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
