Brgy. Ginebra is now a game away from moving on to the semi-finals after fending off a very determined Meralco squad on September 28.

Justin Brownlee once again emerged as the hero for Ginebra. He finished with a staggering 39 points and added 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. However, it was his clutch plays on both ends of the court that truly shined for this game. Scottie Thompson also played a crucial role, adding 19 points and 6 rebounds to the team’s effort. Maverick further solidified their victory with a solid all-around performance of 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

On the other hand, Allen Durham delivered a season-best performance for Meralco, leading the charge with a monstrous 39 points and 14 rebounds. Chris Newsome provided valuable support with 23 points, while Cliff Hodge showcased his versatility contributing 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Despite that, Meralco is now on the brink of elimination after winning its first PBA title in the Philippine Cup last season.

A Nail-Biting Finale: Clutch Plays Define the Fourth Quarter

The fourth unfolded as a true test of character for both squads. Durham took charge for Meralco, scoring crucial baskets, including a layup that put his team ahead 100-96. However, Brownlee responded with a timely jumper, followed by a pinpoint pass to Ahanmisi for a three-pointer, giving Ginebra a one-point lead (101-100).  But Durham was not to be denied, instantly answering with a three-point play, putting Meralco back in front (101-103).

With seconds remaining, Durham attempted to put the game away with an attack to the basket. But Brownlee, was there to deny him with a block. That allowed Ginebra to transition to a counter-attack and Brownlee to unleash a decisive three-pointer that sealed the dramatic victory for the Kings.
