Converge FiberXers have kept their key players as the PBA enters its 50th season this October 2025, as they give fresh new contracts for Schonny Winston, Jeo Ambohot, and Bryan Santos.
Schonny Winston Signs a 2-Year Contract
Reported first at Spin.ph, the breakout star for the Converge FiberXers is said to earn as much as P420,000 per month in his brand new 2-year deal.
Schonny’s original contract with the internet ball club was about to expire come September 17. The 27-year-old Fil-Am guard has emerged to become the solid third option for the FiberXers behind the dynamic duo of Alec Stockton and Justin Arana.
The former De La Salle Green Archer averaged 16 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists during the PBA 49th Philippine Cup.
Jeo Ambohot Signs a 1-Year Deal and Bryan Santos Signs a 2-Year Extension
The first-ever player that the Converge franchise picked in the PBA 2022 Draft remains in the purple uniform as Jeo Ambohot signs a 1-year deal.
The 6-foot-7 former NCAA Finals MVP has proved to be a backup center for Arana and has given the FiberXers some quality off-the-bench performances in the entire Season 49.
Meanwhile, the stretch big, Bryan Santos agrees with a 2-year contract extension, similar to Winston.
Though it wasn’t disclosed how much these 2 rotational big men will earn in their brand new contracts, the 6-foot-5 Santos has greatly contributed in the outside shooting of the team.
Overall Thought: Great Signings, But Definitely Not Enough
Objectively speaking, these are great moves from Converge as they kept vital players in their team, but these are certainly not enough to win a championship, let alone move past the quarterfinals.
In the entirety of Season 49, the franchise that took over the Alaska Aces squad in 2022 has always earned a playoff spot but never succeeded in moving on to the semifinals.
And for Season 50 of the PBA, it’ll take more than keeping their role players and breakout star for them to dig deep in the playoffs. Not to mention they still haven’t received the “positive side” of acquiring former Finals MVP from TNT, Mikey Williams, in exchange for their sharpshooter Jordan Heading.
Williams never saw action rocking the purple jersey of Converge, while Heading helped TNT to make it to the Finals of the Philippine Cup, only to lose in 6 games against the San Miguel Beermen.
So what do they need to do this offseason?
Draft a young and 5-level scorer in the upcoming PBA Rookie Draft this September 7 who will be their 6th man.
They can also find some quality forward in the Free Agency pool while they are at it. And maybe, just maybe, grant the “magical wishes” of Mikey for him to finally suit up for their squad.
That is, if they can provide the things he desires.
