Victor Wembanyama, the behemoth of a player, a towering center that moves like a guard, and someone who’s about to change the game of basketball as we know it, is already on his way for a breakout season. Barring all major injuries, here’s our prediction for how Wemby’s 2025-2026 season will go as realistic as possible!

All-NBA 1st Team: ✅

The 2023 first overall pick will only be turning 22 by January 2026, but at this rate, he may already be considered the second best–if not the best–center in the NBA just behind Nikola Jokic. He’s currently averaging 34.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 6.0 blocks per game, and all things considered, he’ll more likely get the nod for the All-NBA 1st Team over the likes of Joel Embiid and maybe even over Giannis Antetokounmpo since he’s listed as “forward” by the San Antonio Spurs.

Defensive Player of the Year: ✅

If not for his blood clot, Wemby would have played more games last season and would most definitely qualify for the DPoY award. The French sensation was averaging 9.2 defensive rebounds, 4.9 stocks (steals and blocks), and an excellent defensive rating of 107.7, the third best in the league before he went down with an injury.

Not even looking at his stats, it was clear that Wembanyama was already one of the most elite rim protectors in just his second year in the NBA. He was swatting shots everywhere and forcing turnovers with his towering height and scary wingspan, which is exactly the epitome of a top-tier defensive player.

After his first two games of the 2025-2026 season, Wembanyama has already surpassed expectations on the defensive end by averaging 11.0 defensive rebounds and 7.0 stocks (6 blocks and 1 steal)!

He’s going to win the DPoY award by a landslide–even via unanimous votes! However, if he wants to qualify, Wembanyama must play at least 65 games.

Scoring Champ: ❌

Even though we’ve seen how ridiculously good Wembanyama could score from any part of the floor, he doesn’t need to prove that he needs to get that Scoring Champion award

To prevent injuries and the possibility of losing out on the more important things in basketball, ergo the playoffs and championship, Wemby will have to eventually slow down. He’s got a good team behind him and the 7-foot-5 big man doesn’t have to score 40 points each night. On the other hand, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Doncic are our top two picks to win that trophy by the end of this season.

Wembanyama will, however, likely average more than 30 points per game this season since he’s already poised as a breakout player in just his third year.

MVP: ❌

Realistically, Wembanyama as the 2025-2026 Kia Most Valuable Player of the Year isn’t a longshot. It won’t be long until he lays his hand on the Michael Jordan trophy, but until then, he has to make sure he puts the Spurs to a higher ranking first and then push them back to playoff contention.

Historically, there are only two NBA players who won the MVP award despite being in lower seeds. One of those is Moses Malone back in 1979 (5th-seeded Houston Rockets) and Russell Westbrook in 2017 (6th-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder). Moreover, Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic is still leading as the fan-favorite to win the MVP again.

Although many analysts and executives glaze over Wembanyama’s ability to change the game, he needs to at least sit in the third seed in the stacked Western Conference so that he can surely win the MVP. Still, not entirely impossible for the Spurs and Wemby at this point.

Playoffs: ✅

With a stacked roster full of talented young guys, and teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers not at their peak anymore, the San Antonio Spurs now have a legit chance of finally returning to the playoffs. They easily cruised past Dallas on opening night and made it look easy against New Orleans even without De’Aaron Fox on the lineup.

Wembanyama by the End of the Season: 31.5 Points, 10 Rebounds, 3.5 Assists, 5 Blocks, 1.5 Steals Per Game on 45-25-80 Shooting Splits

Wemby will be having a breakout season and his numbers would likely jump as the team’s best scoring option. Plus, he’s already put in the work in the summer by adding more into his arsenal by training with NBA legends like Jamal Crawford, Kevin Garnett, and Hakeem Olajuwon. His steals and blocks would also be career-highs, but his shooting would take a dip given that he will chuck in more shots than usual with Fox on the sidelines.

Regardless, his fans expect him to exceed expectations and Wemby will deliver as the upcoming Defensive Player of the Year and a future MVP. You’ve read that here first!
