Alas Pilipinas Women are bringing back Angel Canino and Amie Provido as the women’s indoor volleyball team prepares for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The La Salle standouts return to the national team after missing the SEA V Cup earlier this year, joining a familiar core that will carry the Philippines’ campaign on the continental stage.
A Familiar Alas Pilipinas Core Returns
Jia De Guzman of the PVL’s Creamline Cool Smashers will once again anchor the offense at setter, with the Akari Chargers’ Mars Alba providing depth at the position.
Dawn Catindig of the Choco Mucho Flying Titans and Justine Jazareno of Akari will share libero duties, while Capital1 Solar Spikers’ Bella Belen, Canino, and Choco Mucho’s Eya Laure make up the outside hitters.
Alyssa Solomon will serve as the team’s lone opposite spiker.
The middle blockers will be led by Thea Gagate of Denso Airybees and PLDT High Speed Hitters’ Dell Palomata, with Provido and Niña Ytang completing the group.
Beach Volleyball Squad Also Ready
The women’s beach volleyball team will also feature familiar faces, with Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, as well as Sofiah Pagara and Khy Progella, representing the Philippines in Aichi-Nagoya.
