Anthony Davis was a beast during the opening night of the 2024-2025 NBA season. The 9-time All-Star stole the show in the Lakers-Timberwolves matchup after his strong performance overshadowed the much-awaited LeBron-Bronny moment in the NBA.
The Los Angeles Lakers hosted Minnesota at the Crypto Arena, however, AD went ballistic against the Timberwolves and finished with 36 points, 16 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Talk about being a force on both ends of the floor! Hopefully, we will see more of this kind of showing from a healthy Davis moving forward.
Even the new-look T-wolves and the 4-time DPOY Rudy Gobert couldn’t contain AD in the paint. Anthony Edwards did what he could do by being productive and dropping 27 points, 3 assists, and 6 rebounds, but the 2024 semifinalists fell short against the purple and gold, 110-103.
On a side note, aside from giving out in-game bits of advice to his son and now teammate Bronny, LeBron James also handed out buckets. Even at 39, the King could still do what a 28-year-old version of himself could – sometimes even better. LBJ tallied 16 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds. Meanwhile, Rui Hachimura had quite an effective night, putting up 18 points and 5 rebounds. JJ Reddick’s coaching debut-with a different approach and playstyle-was a success after punching a victory on opening night.
Will the Addition of Julius Randle Work for Minnesota?
It’s still too early to say if the new-look Timberwolves will work this season, especially with the Towns-Randle trade. Can they replicate their success in the 2023-2024 season or will they be underwhelming now in the stacked Western Conference?
They were playing outstanding last season even with Towns missing a ton of games and had a great postseason run. However, against the Lakers on Tuesday, they were having problems both on offense and defense. Surely, they’ll figure it out as the season progresses (hopefully).
