NBA Roundup: Bulls Rally Past Sixers, Pelicans Finally Break Through, Warriors Come to Life

A modest six-game slate highlighted NBA action on Wednesday, and it saw an unbeaten team stay undefeated and an erstwhile winless team—the New Orleans Pelicans—notch its first win. Let’s take a look at some daily notables around the Association, as always:

Bulls Erase 24-Point Deficit in Win Over Sixers

The Chicago Bulls (6-1) looked headed for back-to-back defeats on Wednesday, falling behind by 24 points against an inspired Philadelphia 76ers (5-2) at United Center. Then, behind Josh Giddey and Nikola Vucevic, the early-season East leaders stormed back and ultimately took a 113-111 win on a Vucevic triple with seconds left.

Giddey continued his fantastic start to the season with a 29-point, 15-rebound, 12-assist triple-double, while Vucevic added 19 points and 10 rebounds to his game-winner. Jalen Smith and Kevin Huerter chipped in 14 and 12, respectively, off the Bulls’ bench.

Tyrese Maxey led all scorers with 39 on 6-for-10 from deep. Joel Embiid added 20 points.

Pelicans Soar Past Hornets for First Win of Season

Jose Alvarado hit the go-ahead triple to lift the New Orleans Pelicans (1-6) to a 116-112 victory over the Charlotte Hornets (3-5) at Smoothie King Center.

Alvarado, who finished with 18 points off the bench, hit the marginal trey with 16 seconds left and the Pelicans down 113-111. Rookie Derik Queen then got a steal on Charlotte’s next possession, leading to two freebies from Trey Murphy III, who fired a team-high 21 points. He and Alvarado were two of eight Pelicans who finished in double digits.

Miles Bridges led Charlotte with 22 points and 8 rebounds but missed what would’ve been a game-tying trey late in regulation. Rookie Kon Knueppel added 20 points and 12 boards.

Warriors Upend Suns to Stop Skid

The Golden State Warriors (5-3) waxed hot in the first half to upend the Phoenix Suns (3-5) at Oracle Arena to stop their two-game slide.

Steph Curry led the way with 28 points to help stake the Warriors to a 68-49 halftime lead. Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Buddy Hield came off the bench and chipped in 24, 13, and 12, respectively, to make up for Jimmy Butler’s two-point outing.

Devin Booker continued his hot streak to start the season with a game-high 38, while Mark Williams and Grayson Allen added 16 apiece.

Hawks defeated Magic, 127-112

Bulls defeated Sixers, 113-111

Pelicans defeated Hornets, 116-112

Warriors defeated Suns, 118-107
