Seven games were played in the NBA on Monday, including a marquee matchup between Kevin Durant and his Houston Rockets and Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Milwaukee Bucks. The struggling Golden State Warriors also played, albeit without Steph Curry for the third straight game. The defending champions Oklahoma City Thunder took the court as well, looking to extend their NBA-best record.
Rockets Rally for the Win vs. Bucks Behind Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant made the go-ahead basket to tow the Houston Rockets (6-3) to a 122-115 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks (6-4) at Fiserv Forum.
Durant finished with 31 points and a season-high seven assists for the Rockets, who closed the game on a 22-7 run to get the win despite trailing most of the way. Alperen Sengun added 23 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. and Reed Sheppard chipped in 16 apiece.
Giannis Antetokounmpo fired 37 points on top of eight rebounds but missed three of four free throws in the final 89 seconds. Ryan Rollins had 19 points and five assists to continue his solid play this season.
Thunder Rally Past Grizzlies for League-Leading 10th Win
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fired 35 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder (10-1) to a 114-100 win over the Memphis Grizzlies (4-7) at FedExForum.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s brilliance helped the Thunder overcome an 11-point halftime deficit, and his nine-point cluster in the fourth gave OKC its first double-digit lead of the game. He finished with 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein backed the MVP up, with the former putting up 21 points and seven boards and the latter contributing 18 points and 13 rebounds. Ajay Mitchell added 21 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 17 for the hot-starting Grizzlies, but Ja Morant was held to only 11 markers.
Steph Curry-Less Warriors Too Much for Shorthanded Pacers
A balanced scoring attack helped the Golden State Warriors (6-5) beat the shorthanded Indiana Pacers (1-9) at Oracle Arena even with Steph Curry sidelined for a third straight game.
Jimmy Butler led six Warriors in double figures with 21 points on top of nine rebounds and seven assists. Quentin Post and Brandin Podziemski chipped in 14 apiece, while Will Richard, Moses Moody, and Al Horford came off the bench to contribute 15, 13, and 12, respectively.
Andrew Nembhard led Indiana with 14 points, followed by 12 apiece from Isaiah Jackson, Jarace Walker, and Jay Huff.
