The Boston Celtics (8-2) squeeze past the Brooklyn Nets (4-5) in a thrilling 108-104 overtime win on November 9.
Jayson Tatum powered the Celtics with 33 points, further establishing his dominance this season with his ninth game scoring 25 or more. He also added 9 rebounds and 6 assists in a well-rounded performance. Derrick White was a force on both ends, posting 14 points, 6 assists, and 3 blocks while Payton Pritchard scored 6 of his 20 points in overtime to help Boston bounce back.
Cam Thomas continued his scoring barrage, dropping 31 points. Dennis Schröder made his presence felt with 20 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals while Cameron Johnson added 18 points and 8 rebounds. However, the Nets’ efforts still weren’t enough as they fell to 0-5 against the Celtics since last season.
Tatum Kept His Team Alive But Pritchard and Holiday Were The Difference-makers
The Nets came out firing, surging ahead with a blistering 16-2 run. The Celtics, however, started to find their rhythm for a 22-12 counterattack. Tatum ignited the fightback with 3 three-pointers. Brooklyn kept the upperhand in the second with Thomas leading the way with 14 points. But Pritchard closed the quarter, scoring 8 points to cut the lead to just 2.
White opened the second half strong with 3 consecutive floaters, but Schröder quickly responded by scoring or assisting on the Nets’ next 9 points. Thomas added a three-pointer to push the lead to (69-62), but Tatum answered right back with 8 straight points to bring the Celtics within one. Both teams then exchanged baskets, heading into the fourth.
The Nets, however, played with more fire, snatching four offensive rebounds and taking a four-point lead. But Holiday stepped up when it counted the most, sparking a 9-4 run that pulled the Celtics in front (89-88). The game stretched into overtime, but the Celtics dug deep and held on for the win.
