It’s official. Anusorn “Tai” Bundit is the new head coach of the Alas Pilipinas women’s volleyball team, Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Tonyboy Liao confirmed.

According to reports, Bundit’s appointment was finalized after receiving the approval of Jonathan Ng of Rebisco. Bundit is currently the head coach of the Rebisco-owned Criss Cross King Crunchers, who compete in Spikers’ Turf.

Liao clarified, however, that Bundit’s appointment will still be formally ratified by the PNVF executive board during its meeting on Thursday, February 5.

Bundit will take over from Brazilian coach Jorge Souza de Brito, whose contract expired in December following Alas Pilipinas’ fourth-place finish at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games. With the change, the federation once again presses the reset button on the women’s national program.

Tai Bundit Is Proven and Tested

Bundit’s appointment comes as little surprise to Philippine volleyball fans.

A Thailand-born coach, Bundit first arrived in the Philippines in 2014 to take over the Ateneo Blue Eagles from Roger Gorayeb ahead of UAAP Season 76—coincidentally, with Liao serving as Ateneo’s team manager at the time.

In his very first season, Bundit engineered a Cinderella run that ended in Ateneo’s first-ever UAAP women’s volleyball championship. Finishing third after the elimination round, the Alyssa Valdez-led Blue Eagles stunned the league by eliminating the Adamson Lady Falcons, defeating the National University Lady Bulldogs twice, and toppling the elimination-round-sweeping De La Salle Lady Spikers three times in the Finals.

Beyond Ateneo, Bundit also became the architect of the Creamline Cool Smashers dynasty from 2017 to 2021, guiding the club to multiple championships and establishing one of the most dominant runs in PVL history. More recently, he mentored the King Crunchers to their first-ever Spikers’ Turf championship in the 2025 Invitational Conference.

Tai Bundit Is an Answered Prayer

For many Filipino volleyball fans, Bundit’s appointment feels like a long-awaited answer.

A former member of Thailand’s men’s national volleyball team that dominated Southeast Asian volleyball in the 1990s, Bundit brings international experience, championship pedigree, and deep familiarity with Filipino players. His arrival signals renewed ambition for a national program eager to return to the SEA Games podium and to take the next step on the continental stage.

With Tai Bundit at the helm, Alas Pilipinas begin a new chapter—one built on trust, proven success, and the belief that the best days of Philippine women’s volleyball are still ahead.
