If there are still doubts that Cooper Flagg is a superstar in the making, the 19-year-old is certainly putting those to rest one spectacular game at a time.

The 2025 NBA Draft first overall pick had another superb outing on Friday, going off for 32 points on 14-for-27 shooting, along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. That brilliant outing, however, went for naught again as the Mavs dropped a 135-123 decision to the San Antonio Spurs at American Airlines Center as Victor Wembanyama delivered 29 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks of his own.

Cooper Flagg Making History…

Even with the loss, Cooper Flagg was historic nonetheless as he became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 30 points in four straight games. The former Duke Blue Devil was also the first rookie since Allen Iverson in 1997 to total 150 points or more over any four-game span in a season. Moreover, Flagg became the first rookie since Michael Jordan in 1985 to record four straight games with at least 30 points and 5 rebounds after his 32-point, 6-rebound effort against the Spurs.

Flagg has certainly had quite a four-game stretch, putting up 37.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game while making 59 of his 78 attempts overall for a staggering 75% clip. For the season, he’s averaging 20.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks, as he has done everything a 19-year-old can do in his first season—except pile up wins.

But Mavs Continue to Struggle

Even with Cooper Flagg showing out, the Mavericks still can’t seem to build any momentum, as they have lost six straight, counting their defeat to the Spurs on Friday. Overall, Dallas is 19-32 and is four games out of Play-In territory.

These struggles aren’t really surprising, though, as the Mavs have been ravaged by injuries to key players, including Kyrie Irving, who is still recovering from the ACL tear he sustained last season. Anthony Davis, who was acquired in exchange for Luka Doncic last season, also missed nearly half of Dallas’ games this season before getting shipped out ahead the trade deadline.

Needless to say, it’s been a tough season for the Mavs. But if it’s any consolation, they’re seeing Cooper Flagg turn into a superstar right in his very first season.
