Alex Eala has climbed up the world rankings once again and is now ranked No. 31 by the WTA. That’s thanks to quarterfinal stints at the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open and WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in a successful Middle East swing that also saw Eala compete at the WTA 500 Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
Mixed Results for Alex Eala Lead to Higher Ranking
Eala reached the quarterfinals in the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open but lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova. She then made history by reaching the semifinals in doubles with Southeast Asian star Janice Tjen, although they failed to advance further.
In the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, however, Alex Eala lost in the very first round to Tereza Valentová.
The Quezon City native made up for it with a deeper run at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where she made it all the way to the quarterfinals while also beating world No. 8 Jasmine Paolini—her third Top 10 victim in her young career. She ultimately lost in the quarters to former doubles partner Coco Gauff.
All Eyes on the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open
Eala will next compete at the Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open, a tournament that many fans view as the fifth Grand Slam.
The Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open is set to take place in California, USA, from March 4 to 15.
