Luka Doncic might just be in the NBA MVP conversation after all.
Doncic has made a strong case for MVP chatter lately, as he has helped lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a magical nine-game winning streak that has the Purple and Gold firmly in the third spot in the loaded Western Conference.
The Slovenian sensation was particularly sensational last week, when the Lakers beat the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat in a difficult back-to-back. In those two games, Luka Magic scored a total of 100 points for the Lakers, first punishing the Rockets with 40 points, and then erupting for 60 points against the Miami Heat. Then, just on Sunday, Doncic added 33 more in his latest barrage.
With such impressive performances, Doncic has now bolstered his chances of winning MVP for the first time in his career.
MVP Luka Doncic Loading
Doncic has been nothing short of amazing in March. The six-time All-Star is averaging 37.2 points, 7.5 assists, and 8.8 rebounds per game in March, while still shooting 41% from long range. For context, his scoring output didn’t come easy.
Aside from his season-high 60 points against the Heat, and a 40-piece against H-Town, Luka Doncic gave the Chicago Bulls 51, had 44 against the Indiana Pacers, and fired 30-point games against quality teams like the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks.
He’s also leveled up on defense, as he is averaging 2.2 steals per game in the same month. This is why Luka Doncic has no doubt climbed up anyone’s NBA MVP ladder.
Last week, most MVP rankings had Luka Doncic at either fourth or fifth, behind stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, and even the injured Cade Cunningham. Now, with the Slovenian locking in and delivering sensational performances for the suddenly red-hot Lakers, his candidacy for MVP can no longer be ignored.
