New import Clint Chapman delivered a superb all-around performance to power the Magnolia Hotshots to a big 121–109 victory over the Macau Black Knights. The win was built on efficiency and control, as Magnolia shot 54.7 percent from the field and imposed its will inside to take command of the game. The win broke the Hotshots’ three-game losing streak and kept the Black Knights winless in four games in this PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
What Happened?
Magnolia set the tone early behind its starters, with Chapman and Zavier Lucero leading a balanced attack that allowed the Hotshots to establish control. Their offensive rhythm never wavered, as they consistently found high-percentage looks, particularly in the paint, where they finished with 68 points.
Macau tried to keep pace behind its perimeter shooting, knocking down 17 triples at a 43.6 percent clip. However, Magnolia’s interior dominance and rebounding edge proved too much to overcome. The Hotshots controlled the glass, 57–37, limiting second-chance opportunities while creating their own.
As the game progressed, Magnolia steadily built separation, leading by as many as 19 points. Despite multiple pushes from the Black Knights, Magnolia’s efficiency and depth allowed them to maintain control and close out the contest comfortably.
Who Stood Out?
Chapman led the charge with 39 points on 15-for-26 shooting, along with 15 rebounds, showcasing his dominance on both ends of the floor. Lucero added 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Jerom Lastimosa chipped in 20 points on an ultra-efficient 8-for-9 shooting clip.
For Macau, Chon Pong Lao paced the scoring with 24 points, including eight triples, while Tony Mitchell posted a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Damian Chong Qui added 20 points and 10 assists, and Phoenix Shackelford contributed 19 points. The team, however, struggled overall, shooting just 39.3 percent from the field.
