PBA Daily Metrics: Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos Propel Ginebra Over Converge while Cansino Continues Surge

Here are the players who made the biggest impact on March 29 and the stats to prove it.

TOP PERFORMERS OF THE DAY:

Justin Brownlee GIN SF 33 PTS | 10 REB | 4 AST | 51.0 FPS

The star forward has been lighting it up on offense, averaging an incredible 36.7 points per game this conference. He’s just as steady on the glass with 8.7 rebounds per outing. With few other consistent scorers on the roster, the Kings will continue to lean heavily on their import going forward.

Marvin Jones MER C 24 PTS  | 14 REB | 1 BLK | 50.3 FPS

This was his second 20-point outing of the conference and his third consecutive game with at least 14 rebounds. Although his contributions were limited to scoring and rebounding, his consistency remains a key reason why Meralco holds one of the best records in the league.

Rhon Jay Abarrientos GIN PG 32 PTS  | 3 REB | 4 AST | 44.6 FPS

The rising guard is undeniably capable of these kinds of performances, erupting for his second 30-point outing since last conference, both coming against the same team. He has also scored at least 23 points eight times. With several key players sidelined, RJ should be poised for more of these performances.

Earl Michael Gilmore TGR C 25 PTS | 16 REB | 2 AST | 44.2 FPS

The big man was a dominant two-way force through his first three conference games. He couldn’t maintain that same level of impact today, but he remained a dependable inside presence, bringing his conference average to 15.5 rebounds. Despite some inefficiency, he’s still steady on offense, scoring at least 25 points in every game so far.

Crispin John Cansino MER SF 26 PTS  | 6 REB | 5 AST | 42.7 FPS

Cansino has emerged as a legitimate scoring force since the last conference and has now recorded at least 20 points ten times. He also showcased a more complete game today and should continue to get better down the stretch.

John Bryan Sajonia TGR SG 29 PTS  | 2 REB | 2 AST | 34.4 FPS

The rookie guard took the spotlight, delivering a career-high performance while also leading all players in scoring. After previously struggling with his three-point shooting, Sajonia was locked in today, knocking down 5-of-8 from deep. Whether or not he can sustain this level of play, he has shown his offensive upside and should continue to be a key piece of the team’s run in this conference.

Justine Baltazar CON PF 20 PTS  | 7 REB | 1 STL | 34.4 FPS

The forward continues to step up on the scoring end, finishing with a team-high and conference-high in points. That was his second outing with at least 19 points and his fifth since the last conference. But the scoring surge has come at the expense of his rebounding, as he has averaged just 6.0 boards in his last two games after opening the conference with three straight 10-rebound performances.

Michael Kurtiz Williams CON SG 16 PTS  | 6 REB | 8 AST | 33.2 FPS

It wasn’t the most efficient performance, but the former Finals MVP is steadily trending in the right direction. After struggling in his first three games of the conference, Williams has turned it around, averaging 15.0 points, 4 threes and 8 assists in his last two.

Earl Scottie Thompson GIN SF 5 REB  | 5 AST | 4 STL | 30.5 FPS

Offense has been a concern for Thompson in his first two games, as he has converted just 1-of-8 from deep. But he remained highly productive with strong contributions in other areas, especially on the defensive end. There weren’t many subpar scoring games for him last conference, so he should eventually find his rhythm.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DAY:

Alec June Stockton CON SG 9 PTS | 3 REB | 5 AST | 16.1 FPS

Not only did Stockton turn the ball over four times, but he also had a very frustrating offensive performance. He went 2-for-14 from the field, including an even worse 0-for-9 showing from two. Still, he has been mostly solid for the conference and should be able to rebound quickly in the next games.
