It is clay court season for Filipina ace Alex Eala as she continues her 2026 season.

The 20-year-old Eala, who dropped from a career-high No, 29 to No. 45 in the latest WTA rankings after crashing out early in the Miami Open, is now back at the Rafa Nadal Academy, in fact, to prepare for her first clay court competition of the season.

Alex Eala Competes at Clay

WTA 500 Linz Open (April 6 to 12)

The pride of the Philippines begins clay court season in upper Austria at the WTA 500 Linz Open scheduled to take place on April 6 to 12. Joining Eala in this tournament are the reigning champion, Ekaterina Alexandrova, who defeated Eala in their quarterfinals match at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, Jelena Ostanpenko, Clara Tauson, and Dayana Yastremska, among others.

WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (April 13 to 19)

After the Linz Open, Eala will play at the clay courts of Stuttgart, Germany in the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on April 13 to 19. Unlike in the Linz Open, however, the Filipina rising star won’t be in the Main Draw directly and will instead go through the qualifying tournament first.

WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open (April 21 to May 3)

Perhaps the biggest tournament Eala will play in her early clay court schedule is the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open in Madrid, Spain. The pride of Quezon City is in the Main Draw of this tournament.

Can Alex Eala Improve Her Clay Court Record?

Eala’s foray in clay should be interesting as she hasn’t had much success on this surface. Last season, in fact, she won only twice and lost four times in the clay court tournaments she participated in.

During the Oeiras Open, she won her first round match against Anouk Koevermans but lost to Panna Udvardy in the second round. It was the same for Eala at the Madrid Open, where she won the first round against Viktoriya Tomova but got eliminated by Iga Swiatek in the next round.

Next up were early exits in the Italian Open courtesy of Marta Kostyuk and in the French Open against Emiliana Arango.

Now, Alex Eala is hoping for better results as she looks to restart her climb back to higher rankings.
