UAAP Season 88 Men’s Volleyball: Adamson Outlasts UP, Forces Three-Way Tie at Bottom of Standings

The Adamson Soaring Falcons finally notched a win in the second round of the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Volleyball Tournament as they outlasted the UP Fighting Maroons, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.

In the fourth set, the Fighting Maroons looked poised to extend the match after building a 9-4 lead. However, the Soaring Falcons clawed their way back and tied the game at 23-all behind Richard Besorio.

Adamson then moved to match point after Leo Coguimbal denied Olayemi Raheem at the net, 24-23, before a strong serve from Lourenz Domingo forced an error to seal the win.

“Ang instruction lang naman sa team, bigyan natin ng pride ‘yung school. Huwag natin ipakita na nakachamba lang tayo nung first round. Kahit hindi na makapasok sa Final Four, still ongoing ang season, so bigyan natin ng pride ang school,” said Soaring Falcons head coach Raffy Mosuela.

Richard Besorio Soars for Adamson

Besorio led the Soaring Falcons with 23 points built on 20 attacks and 3 blocks, along with 12 excellent receptions. Coguimbal added 15 points built on 9 attacks, 6 blocks, and 1 service ace.

Ronn Domingo dished out 19 excellent sets and added 7 points, while libero Anrhil Cuadra had 10 excellent receptions and 4 excellent digs.

For the Fighting Maroons, Tommy Castrodes led the team with 19 points and 14 excellent receptions, while Olayemi Raheem and Milven Francisco added 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Soaring Falcons will wrap up their campaign against the league-leading FEU Tamaraws on Saturday, April 18, at 3:00 p.m. at the Quadricentennial Pavilion. Meanwhile, the Fighting Maroons will close their season against the UST Golden Spikers on Sunday, April 19, at 9:00 a.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
