Shaina Nitura continues to rewrite history for the Adamson Lady Falcons after becoming the school’s first-ever Most Valuable Player in the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

The sophomore outside spiker headlined the league’s top individual awardees after a dominant all-around campaign that also helped Adamson return to the Final Four for the first time since Season 85.

Nitura topped the MVP race with 98.511 statistical points behind a stellar season on both ends of the floor. She finished with 284 points built on 248 attacks, 24 blocks, and 12 aces, while also ranking among the league leaders in spiking, receptions, and digs.

The Cainta native also captured her first Best Outside Spiker award.

“Again, grateful na binigay ni God ito sa akin and again, I am gonna be happy and grateful, pero hindi naman doon titigil yung career ko, yung career namin, and yung pagpu-push namin to get into the Finals. Nandoon pa rin talaga yung focus namin,” Nitura said.

“Actually, this only means na capable kami makapasok ng Finals kasi meron kaming Fhei [Sagaysay] at meron kaming other players na pwede mag-push through it sa upcoming seasons na meron kami with the team.”

Angel Canino, Sam Cantada, Others Join Shaina Nitura as Season’s Best

Joining Shaina Nitura as Best Outside Spiker was Angel Canino of the La Salle Lady Spikers, who secured the citation for the third straight season.

La Salle captain Shevana Laput also earned her second consecutive Best Opposite Spiker award after another strong offensive campaign for the eventual champions.

Meanwhile, Amie Provido and Niña Ytang retained their Best Middle Blocker awards for the second straight year. Ytang, in particular, continued her dominance by securing a record fourth straight Best Middle Blocker citation.

Adamson also collected another major award as Sagaysay emerged as Best Setter after leading the league in service aces among setters and finishing second in excellent sets per frame.

On defense, Shaira Jardio of the National University Lady Bulldogs was named Best Libero after topping the league in both digs and reception efficiency.

Another Lady Bulldog also took home major hardware as rookie sensation Sam Cantada captured Rookie of the Year honors after a breakout debut season highlighted by her strong attacking and serving numbers.
