The Converge Fuel Masters dismantled the Macau Giant Pandas, 149‑124, on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. It was the Fuel Masters’ second straight win to open their PBA Governors’ Cup campaign, while the Giant Pandas dropped their third consecutive game.

What Happened?

Converge stormed out of the gates, with Justin Arana and Justine Baltazar combining for 15 early points in a 34‑point first quarter that also saw the FiberXers hold Macau to just 21. The Giant Pandas, however, chipped away at that lead with a spirited second‑quarter effort led by De’Vondre Perry and Ramon Cao. At the half, Converge was up by only six, 67‑61, after a 40‑33 quarter in favor of Macau.

Macau continued its strong play to start the third, even taking the lead at 83‑82 with 5:58 left in the period. The score was still tied at 86 when Converge closed the quarter by outscoring the Giant Pandas, 23‑10, to carry a 109‑96 advantage into the final frame. The FiberXers did not let up, pouring in 40 more points to cruise to the blowout.

Who Stood Out?

Arana lorded over this game, exploding for a career‑high 39 points on 18‑for‑24 shooting, with 12 rebounds and 3 assists. Alex Stockton, returning from injury, came off the bench to contribute 15 points and 4 assists, while Calvin Abueva added 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals with his trademark energy.

Macau leaned heavily on Cao, Perry, and Kobey Lam. Cao registered his PBA career‑best with 41 points, along with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Perry finished with 35 points and 11 rebounds, while Lam tallied 26.

3 Keys to the Game

  1. Talent. The Giant Pandas hung around for as long as they could, even briefly taking the lead in the third. But Converge’s talent overwhelmed them from the midway point of the third until the final buzzer.
  2. Pace. The FiberXers ran whenever possible and played at a blistering pace all game. That resulted in a 41‑25 advantage in fast‑break points, with Baltazar scoring two easy dunks in the first quarter, Abueva finishing layups late in the third, and Ronan Santos delivering a highlight slam in the fourth.
  3. Shooting. With their fast‑break‑driven attack, Converge piled up lay‑ins, dunks, and easy finishes. They shot 60.4% overall compared to Macau’s 43.8%. The FiberXers also dominated the paint, scoring 112 points inside, while the Giant Pandas managed only 52.
