After three straight double-digit losses, Joshua Munzon and the Titan Ultra Giant Risers finally broke through in the PBA Governors’ Cup, earning their first win of the conference with a convincing 103-87 victory over TNT Tropang 5G on Wednesday.
Despite TNT fielding a depleted lineup due to injuries to several key players, Munzon and company refused to take the Tropang 5G lightly. The 31-year-old guard finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Munzon admitted he used their previous humiliating defeats as motivation to finally break into the win column.
“Just using that as fuel. I mean, getting beaten like that and then going out there, like you said, was embarrassing,” said Munzon.
Turning Sour Losses into a Sweet Victory
As Titan snapped its losing streak, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 PBA Draft said the victory came as a huge sigh of relief for the entire team.
“But at the same time, we can use this as fuel for this game, go out there, fight, and get us a W. So I think it feels good for us to finally get off that hump and get the win,” Munzon added.
Prior to the win, Titan opened its Governors’ Cup campaign with a 113-100 loss to the Terrafirma Dyip. That was followed by a lopsided 105-74 defeat to the Converge FiberXers and a 135-100 blowout at the hands of the NLEX Road Warriors.
The Giant Risers also ended their 10-game losing streak, which dated back to the previous Commissioners’ Cup, where they dropped their final seven games.
Now that they have rediscovered what it feels like to win, Titan will look to build on its momentum when it faces the winless Macau Giant Pandas, who currently hold a 0-4 record, on July 25.
