‘Found a Rhythm Early’: Jerrick Ahanmisi Hopes to Keep Rolling After Finally Playing to Self-Set High Standard

Jerrick Ahanmisi was in a slump coming into the San Miguel Beermen’s game against the Titan Ultra Giants on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

In the three games after his 16-point debut for San Miguel in a 123-109 win over the Macau Giant Pandas, Ahanmisi’s scoring dipped each time—9 in a 109-104 win versus the Terrafirma Dyip, 5 in a 128-122 victory over the Converge FiberXers, and 2 in a 110-96 loss to the NLEX Road Warriors.

For someone who led the PBA Commissioner’s Cup in scoring average, those outputs were certainly below par.

Jerrick Ahanmisi Snaps Out of Funk

On Wednesday, though, Ahanmisi looked like the player fans had come to expect. He fired 26 points on a hyper-efficient 10-for-15 clip, spiked by four triples and a four-pointer, to help lead San Miguel to a 143-105 trashing of Titan Ultra.

“I think today was a good showing for me, just because of the way I’ve been playing. And I kind of hold a high standard to myself, and the past couple games, I haven’t been playing at my best,” Ahanmisi told reporters after the game. “Today I’m just glad that I found a rhythm early, and that I was able to also get my teammates involved. Today was a good showing for me, and I just gotta keep it rolling.”

Ahanmisi indeed found his rhythm early, making the game’s first basket and scoring 8 of San Miguel’s first 17 points in the opening frame. By the end of the first quarter, he had nearly equaled his point total from the previous three games—and things only snowballed from there.

Jerrick Ahanmisi will look to keep rolling on Saturday, August 1, when the Beermen take on the TNT Tropang 5G at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
