Alex Eala is set to take on a familiar foe in Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina as the two battle for a spot in the semifinals of the WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open.
Back in June, Eala defeated Svitolina in their quarterfinal match at the Berlin Tennis Open, 6-3, 6-4. In that match, the pride of the Philippines protected her leads and avoided being pushed to a deciding third set.
At this year’s Mubadala DC Open, the 21-year-old Filipina has been impressive in her first two matches, defeating Zheng Qinwen and Leylah Fernandez.
On the other hand, Svitolina received a first-round bye before dispatching Polina Kudermetova in straight sets, 7-6(4), 6-4.
Can Eala Capitalize on Her One-Day Rest?
Interestingly, the world No. 10 Ukrainian just finished her Round of 16 match today, Friday, and will have less than 24 hours of rest before facing the world No. 28 Filipina tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Rafa Nadal Academy graduate enjoyed a full day of rest before her quarterfinal match. With her opponent potentially dealing with fatigue, can Alex Eala capitalize on the advantage?
