The TNT Tropang 5G got back at first-round tormentor Titan Ultra Giant Risers on Saturday with a 114-80 dismantling at the Ynares Center in Montalban. It is the Tropa’s fourth win of the PBA Governors’ Cup as against three losses. The loss, on the other hand, is Titan Ultra’s sixth in eight games.
What Happened?
TNT got off to a strong first quarter, with Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser firing nine early points and Rey Nambatac adding six more in a 34-21 opening frame for the Tropa. Titan Ultra tried to show some fight in the second, but TNT’s firepower proved too much as the latter still outscored the former, 26-23, to head to halftime with a 60-44 advantage.
The Tropang 5G seized full control after intermission, scoring 22 points in the third while holding the Giant Risers to just 16 for an 82-60 cushion heading into the final quarter. It was all TNT in the last 12 minutes, too, as the Tropa added 32 more to Titan Ultra’s 20 for the rout.
Who Stood Out?
Ganuelas-Rosser had his best game after returning from injury as he tallied 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Rey Nambatac continued his stellar conference with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals, while Jordan Heading returned from an injured shoulder and fired 23 points off the bench spiked with 4 treys.
On the other side, Titan Ultra couldn’t get anything going at all. A bright spot of sorts, though, was Bryan Sajonia, who came off the bench to score 13 on 2 triples.
3 Keys to the Game
- Turnovers. TNT turned up the heat on defense, and it showed prominently in the turnover battle, which the Tropa won, 23-8. That resulted in 31 points off turnovers for the Tropang 5G, while the Giant Risers had just 12.
- Starters. The Tropa’s starting five towed TNT to an early lead, with Nambatac and BGR leading the way. In all, the Tropang 5G’s starters outscored their Titan Ultra counterparts, 58-39, in a show of force.
- Points in the paint. While TNT hit from downtown, it also attacked the rack aggressively, with BGR, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson, and Nambatac all breaking down the Titan defense relentlessly. The result was a massive 68-26 advantage for the Tropa in points in the paint.
