The Adamson Soaring Falcons dominated the UST Growling Tigers, 85‑57, in the UAAP Season 89 Men’s Basketball Tournament at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The Soaring Falcons took control from the opening tip, capitalizing on UST’s struggles from beyond the arc as the Growling Tigers finished the game shooting just 2‑for‑24 from three‑point range.
Adamson also made its presence felt on the defensive end, forcing 20 turnovers from the Growling Tigers and converting them into 21 points.
“The players did their part. We gave them a game plan, and they followed it accordingly. I think that’s the only way we could have a chance in the UAAP—if we really follow it and defend those other teams. Because if we don’t do our part defensively, any given day they will all score 90, 100,” said Soaring Falcons head coach Nash Racela.
Adamson’s Dominant Outing
Mathew Montebon led the Soaring Falcons with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals, while Matty Erolon added 17 points. Earl Medina finished the game with 11 points.
For the Growling Tigers, Collins Akowe led the way with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Amiel Acido contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds.
The Soaring Falcons will next face the National University Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 7, at 2:30 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Meanwhile, the Growling Tigers will also face the Bulldogs in their next game on Saturday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
