The NU Lady Bulldogs opened their UAAP Season 89 Women’s Basketball campaign on a winning note, routing the Adamson Lady Falcons, 71‑51, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs started strong, building a double‑digit lead before taking their biggest advantage at 22 points in the second half.
Adamson Fights Back, NU Retakes Control
Adamson fought back in the third quarter by tightening its defense, cutting the deficit to 12, 46‑34. However, NU quickly regained control in the final frame and kept the Lady Falcons from completing the comeback.
The Lady Bulldogs also took advantage of Adamson’s turnovers, scoring 17 points off 18 giveaways. NU’s bench likewise outscored the Lady Falcons’ reserves, 19‑2.
Cielo Pagdulagan led NU with 17 points in her return to the UAAP after missing the entirety of last season due to illness. The 22‑year‑old guard shot 6‑of‑13 from the field in her first game since winning both Rookie of the Year and Finals MVP honors in Season 87.
“Last year po kasi, sobrang nalungkot ako. Mahirap manood lang habang nakikita mo ‘yung teammates mo na lumalaban,” said Pagdulagan.
“Sobrang laking bagay si Cielo. We’re so happy that she’s finally back and playing. Very happy kami first of all na healthy na siya and now very thankful kami na she’s fit to play,” said NU head coach DA Olan.
