The Houston Rockets (37-22) pounced on early and never looked back, handing the San Antonio Spurs (24-33) their fourth straight loss with a 118-106 victory on February 27.
Houston Rockets Top Performers:
Amen Thompson 25 PTS | 9 REB | 5 AST | 47.3 FPS
Thompson continues to make excellent all-around contributions. He has been shooting well, scoring 17+ points, and dishing out 5+ assists in three of four games since the break. He has also been dominant on defense, posting strong defensive numbers and consistent rebounding.
Jalen Green 21 PTS | 7 REB | 4 AST | 32.4 FPS
Green had his lowest scoring output in four games since the break but continues to shoot well both from the field and three. He’s also contributed consistently in rebounding and playmaking, but his lack of defensive stats limits his value in category leagues.
Alperen Sengun 9 PTS | 11 REB | 3 AST | 29.7 FPS
Sengun saw limited minutes today due to foul trouble and the game not being close. Before this, he was on a roll, posting 20+ points and 11+ rebounds in three straight outings. He just needs to be more efficient at the line, sharper as a playmaker, and more reliable on the defensive end.
Dillon Brooks 19 PTS | 5-8 3PT | 4 REB | 28.3 FPS
Brooks is known for his defense and has consistently recorded a steal this week while emerging as a scoring threat, posting 16+ points with 4+ threes in his last two games. He’s also shown that he is capable of big performances, making him a decent option in deeper leagues.
Jabari Smith Jr. 9 PTS | 10 REB | 1 AST | 20.5 FPS
Smith remains a double-double threat and has seen more offensive opportunities lately, but he hasn’t capitalized and offers little outside of scoring and rebounding. His struggles along with a challenging schedule ahead, make him a risk for now.
San Antonio Spurs Top Performers
Stephon Castle 22 PTS | 7 REB | 5 AST | 46.9 FPS
Castle’s minutes have been up-and-down since the break as he struggles offensively. But he broke through with a 20-point performance today after failing to do so in his last five outings. He has the potential to be a well-rounded contributor and is likely to see more minutes moving forward but consistency remains an issue, so monitor him for now.
Keldon Johnson 22 PTS | 5 REB | 1 STL | 33.0 FPS
Johnson has been a steady scoring option since the break and should continue producing offensively. However, his contributions in other categories remain limited.
Julian Champagnie 11 PTS | 4 REB | 3 BLK | 25.3 FPS
Champagnie is set for a larger role due to the team’s injuries. His offense has been up-and-down lately but he’s been a top contributor on the defensive end, tallying 11 stocks in his last four games.
Devin Vassell 9 PTS | 5 REB | 3 AST | 17.5 FPS
Vassell’s offensive struggles have been hard to ignore. But he remains a significant part of the team’s offense and is a capable all-around contributor once he finds his rhythm, so holding him for now is the smart move.
Chris Paul 4 PTS | 4 AST | 2 STL | 16.2 FPS
Paul has been highly inconsistent in his last five games. He had two double-digit points and assists performance with the rest being lackluster. Furthermore, his minutes are most likely to decline with the team done for the season. He might not be worth a roster spot unless you really need assists and steals.
Biggest Disappointment of the Game:
De’Aaron Fox 7 PTS | 3-12 FG | 3 AST
Fox’s production has been on a decline after a strong four-game stretch of 23+ points in the previous week. His shooting struggles have been glaring, hitting no better than 28% from the field and just 3-of-21 from deep over his last three games.
