The Quarterfinals of the 2024–25 PVL All-Filipino Conference continued on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo with the Petro Gazz Angels looking to get back at the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles and the Creamline Cool Smashers aiming for a sweep of the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
Here’s a recap of the action:
Petro Gazz Gets Back at Zus Coffee as Jonah Sabete Returns
The Petro Gazz Angels made sure there were no upsets this time, racing out to a strong start en route to a 25-19, 25-13, 28-26 triumph over the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles.
Birthday girl Brooke Van Sickle led the Angels with 17 points, including their last two—a kill spike and an ace. MJ Phillips, Myla Pablo, and the returning Jonah Sabete added 11 apiece to help Petro Gazz extend its quarterfinals series against Zus Coffee to a Game 3 decider.
Chinnie Arroyo was the only Thunderbelle to breach the double-digit barrier in Game 2, which is in stark contrast to Zus Coffee’s Game 1 stunner, where five players fired at least 10. This time around, Game 1 hero Chai Troncoso was limited to just 8—the same output as Thea Gagate.
Creamline Fends Off Chery Tiggo, Seals Semis Berth
The Creamline Cool Smashers were tested, but they showed why they’re the defending champions, holding off the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22, behind another balanced effort.
Bea de Leon had 14 points on 5 kill blocks to earn Player of the Game honor, while Bernadeth Pons topscored for the Cool Smashers with 18. Tots Carlos matched de Leon’s output, Pangs Panaga chipped in 8, and Alyssa Valdez and Kyle Negrito added 6 apiece.
Seth Rodriguez paced the Crossovers with 16 points, while Cess Robles added 14 as she matched the Cool Smashers’ stars point-for-point in the third set. Ara Galang put up 11 for Chery Tiggo.
With the win, Creamline is now entering its 17th straight Final Four appearance—a PVL record.
