Alex Eala is bracing for a tough challenge in both the singles and doubles events of the WTA 500 Toray Pan Pacific Open.
Singles Opening Assignment: Mika Stojsavljevic
Eala will start her singles campaign later today when she takes on Mika Stojsavljevic for the first time in her career.
The 17-year-old Stojsavljevic is a wild-card entry in the tournament and has yet to make a significant breakthrough this 2026 season, currently sitting at No. 308 in the world rankings.
With a considerable advantage in experience and a higher world ranking, the 21-year-old Eala is favored to win her opening-round matchup against the British teenager.
Doubles Opening Assignment: Miyu Kato and Chan Hao-Ching
As the world No. 20 teams up with Desirae Krawczyk, the pair is set to begin its doubles campaign against Miyu Kato and Chan Hao-Ching.
American Krawczyk has established herself as a formidable doubles specialist. She has won four Grand Slam mixed doubles titles: the 2021 French Open, the 2021 US Open, and consecutive Wimbledon titles in 2021 and 2022.
She has also captured 14 WTA Tour doubles titles, including the WTA 1000 Canadian Open in 2024. This year, the 32-year-old won the Ningbo Open doubles title alongside Fanny Stollar and the Charleston Open title with Caty McNally.
Meanwhile, the Kato-Hao-Ching pairing won the inaugural 2026 WTA 250 Athens Open in July. Additionally, the duo captured the WTA 125 Austin Open title earlier this year as well.
