Nikola Jokic, triple-doubles, home victory, and another historical night. On Saturday, the Denver Nuggets faced the Memphis Grizzlies for a match that could alter their standings in a jampacked Western conference. As expected, Jokic did everything he could, including putting up another triple-double, 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists; his 34th this season. But, that same game, the Serbian superstar completed another feat no big man has done in more than 75 years of NBA history: Becoming the first center to average a triple-double in the regular season
Jokic’ Best Statistical Season Etches His Name in the Plethora of Big Men
The 2024-2025 season is probably Jokic’s best statistical campaign in his career. The 3-time MVP becomes the third player to average a triple-double. The other two are Oscar Robertson and his now teammate, Russell Westbrook, who did it 4 times.
The Joker is the only big man in that elite category, showcasing his unparalleled offensive skillset, playmaking ability, and tenacious rebounding. Not even the likes of Kareem, Shaq, or Hakeem came close. Surprisingly, this happened just days after the Nuggets decided to sack head coach Mike Malone, when the team’s playoff hopes is now in shambles.
Every season, Jokic has proven that he gets better and better. He is once again in talks for the MVP award, but often gets overshadowed by OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
