Kaya FC-Iloilo and Capital1 Solar Strikers remained deadlocked in second place with 6 wins after emphatic wins against University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas in the PFF Women’s League last May 31.
Capital1 Overpowers the Fighting Maroons
Capital1 Solar Strikers put on a goal-scoring clinic as they steamrolled past University of Santo Tomas, in a match that could have easily been an internal battle for Woman of the Match honors.
Despite torrential rain, the Strikers didn’t lose rhythm, piling on eight second-half goals to solidify their campaign.
Leading the charge was Judie Arevalo, who netted 5 goals and was later named Woman of the Match for the third time this season. Though honored, Arevalo admitted she’d rather avoid the spotlight.
In an article from Spin.ph, here’s what Judie has to say: “I really don’t mind if any of my teammates were named Woman of the Match,”. “Receiving the honor means stepping in front of the camera again and I’m very shy.”
She added, “I focused on the target. Because of the [tournament] system, we wanted to have double-digit goals.”
Final Score: Capital1 12, UST 1
Angela Teves and Regine Rebosura also had standout performances, each completing a hat-trick. Angelica Torres and Princess Caparida contributed with 1 goal apiece. Capital1’s aggressive push wasn’t just for pride—it was strategic, given the tight race at the top of the standings and the importance of goal difference.
Christi Logastua salvaged a late goal for UST during stoppage time, but it did little to alter the lopsided result.
UST now sinks in the team standings with a record of 1 win and 9 losses
Cisneros Inspires Kaya’s 6th Win
Overcoming the absence of several national team players, Kaya FC-Iloilo had to rely on depth and determination to take down the University of the Philippines.
Julissa Cisneros stepped up to deliver a hat-trick, including 2 goals in the opening half, while Dionesa “Inday” Tolentin added a brace.
By halftime, Kaya had already established a commanding 4-0 lead, effectively taking the fight out of UP. Cisneros struck once more after the break to seal the win, pushing her league-leading goal tally to 12.
Final Score: Kaya FC 5, UP 0
In an article of ABS CBN News, Julissa said that “I’m very happy obviously. I’m very grateful to my teammates,” after notching the league’s fourth hat-trick of the season.
Kaya’s win was even more impressive considering they played without team captain Hali Long and both goalkeepers Inna Palacios and Kiara Fontanilla, all away on national duty. Despite these absences, the squad maintained composure and cohesion.
UP shares a similar record with UST having only won 1 game along with 9 losses.
Neck-and-Neck Title Race
Both Capital1 and Kaya now have 18 points, with Kaya holding a game in hand and the advantage in goal difference. League leaders Stallion Laguna remain slightly ahead with 19 points.
With Capital1 and Kaya scheduled to face off in upcoming fixtures—and both still needing to play Stallion and the emerging Makati FC—the race for the championship is heating up.
UP, like UST, stays at three points near the bottom of the table.
