Alex Eala will once again showcase her talent on the hard courts after receiving a first-round bye in the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Canada.
After suffering a first-round exit last year, Eala will have an opportunity to redeem herself this season as the tournament’s No. 32 seed.
In 2025, Alex Eala bowed out of the competition after a hard-fought three-set loss to Markéta Vondroušová, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6.
This time, the pride of the Philippines will look to bounce back following her impressive run at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, where she reached the fourth round and became the first Filipina to accomplish the feat in the Open Era.
The Rafa Nadal Academy graduate will be joined by top stars Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Iga Świątek, as well as other notable players such as Jasmine Paolini, Iva Jovic, and last year’s runner-up, Naomi Osaka.
Before flying to Toronto, however, the world No. 28 is expected to first compete at the WTA 500 Mubadala Open in Washington, D.C.
