Alex Eala will once again continue her partnership with close friend Nikola Bartunkova as the Filipina-Czech duo competes in women’s doubles at the 2026 Wimbledon Grand Slam.
Teammates to Foes to Teammates Again
Eala and Bartunkova first paired up at the WTA 125 Birmingham Open, but their partnership ended quickly after a first-round exit against the elite duo of Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden. Later in the same tournament, the two met in the singles final, where the 21-year-old Filipina came out on top in their first-ever head-to-head clash to secure her second WTA 125 championship.
As first reported by the Philippine Tennis Association, the duo is now set to compete in the Wimbledon main draw.
Tough Competition Ahead
The two young stars will face a stacked field at the end of June, with top-ranked WTA doubles players Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend in the mix, alongside the duo of Elise Mertens and Shuai Zhang and the pair of Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani. Eala and Bartunkova will, in fact, face stiff competition in the very first round as they are set to face the pairing of Jeļena Ostapenko and Sofia Kenin
Last year, Eala partnered with Eva Lys but failed to advance past the opening rounds. This time, with prior experience both as teammates and opponents, Eala and Bartunkova may have a chance to surprise the field with a strong showing at Wimbledon.
