The Creamline Cool Smashers leaned on their depth and late-game composure to outlast the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-18, 26-24, 25-20, in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil Centre on Saturday, February 21.
While Bella Belen delivered another explosive performance, Creamline’s balanced attack proved decisive.
Creamline Steadier in Crunch Time
The turning point came in the second set. Trailing by six points at 17-23, the Cool Smashers mounted a rally behind Jia De Guzman’s steady service and consecutive attacks from Tots Carlos and Jema Galanza to tie the game at 23-all.
Belen briefly pushed Capital1 to set point, 24-23, but Galanza responded to even the score once more. Bernadeth Pons followed with a cross-court attack before Leila Cruz sent her attempt long, allowing Creamline to steal the frame, 26-24.
“Siyempre, knowing Capital1, andun si Bella, talagang lalaban at lalaban ‘yon,” said head coach Sherwin Meneses, who previously coached Belen in the UAAP. “Talagang ‘di kami puwedeng magpabaya kahit na one point. So, maganda naman ‘yung response ng team sa second set, kaya naka-recover kami. Actually, lamang kami doon, pero siyempre ‘yung mga senior player namin talagang nagde-deliver doon sa mga crucial points.”
Carlos led Creamline with 15 points, while Pons added 14 built on 12 attacks, 1 block, and 1 ace. Galanza chipped in 13 markers, and De Guzman orchestrated the offense with 22 excellent sets.
For Capital1, Belen was once again the focal point, finishing with 26 points on 24 attacks, 1 block, and 1 ace.
