As the days count down to the Italian Grand Prix to be held at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza Circuit, all eyes will rightfully be on points leader and Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli and the Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team, both of which have the aforementioned GP as their home race.
But while the attention will be on the drivers and teams, Scuderia is also turning heads as it unveiled its newest livery for the SF‑26 car—a tribute to seven‑time world drivers’ champion Michael Schumacher. The livery commemorates 30 years since the German driver joined the team and 20 years since his last race for Ferrari. Both cars are being driven by current Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Scuderia di Schumacher
Schumacher and Ferrari were one of the great combinations in F1 history, and the livery pays homage to that. To many, Schumacher is Ferrari, and despite his surprising return to F1 in 2010 with Mercedes, fans still heavily associate him with his former team, with which he won five of his seven world titles.
Still sporting the iconic Ferrari red, the SF‑26 now also features accents and styles reminiscent of Schumacher’s debut car, the F310. At the nose of the car lies a seven‑star pattern representing both his seven titles and a tribute to one of his iconic helmets that featured the same star design, which he wore during his last season with the Scuderia in 2006.
Fans are also in for a treat, as some of Schumacher’s iconic cars will be driven at Monza in a demonstration for spectators ahead of the race weekend.
The Past and the Future
Of course, this wouldn’t be a modern F1 season without parallels and storylines running in the background. Addressing the obvious, Lewis Hamilton—much like Schumacher—also currently holds seven world titles and is one of only two drivers in F1 history to achieve such a feat, with the other one being, yes, Schumacher. This season, Hamilton is tied with Mercedes driver George Russell for second place and is holding out hope to win an eighth championship.
While Hamilton represents the older generation, his current championship rival, Antonelli, is F1’s rising star. The pressure is on Hamilton to prove his worth on Ferrari’s home turf and close the gap between himself and Antonelli.
It’s a compelling storyline for the Italian GP. Hamilton once stood in Antonelli’s shoes—the young up‑and‑comer who slowly eclipsed the old greats. This weekend, he’ll be looking to fend off the new challenger while driving a car that pays homage to his predecessor in front of Ferrari’s home crowd.
