‘I Really Want to Go Back’: After ‘Lot of Firsts’ in FIBA 3×3, Rising Star Jerrick Ahanmisi Wants Another Shot

Dynamic guard Jerrick Ahanmisi is slowly making a name for himself in Philippine basketball. Over at the PBA, he has emerged as one of the league’s bright young stars, finally able to showcase his lethal scoring for the Terrafirma Dyip after years of being buried on the Magnolia Hotshots bench. Then, just recently, the former Adamson Soaring Falcon introduced himself in the international 3×3 scene as a vital cog for the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s Team that competed in the recently concluded FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup.

And, from the looks of it, Jerrick Ahanmisi would love to represent the Philippines again in that same setting, under those bright lights, and with those high stakes.

“I was telling my wife the other day that I really want to go back. I want to play because it’s that fun. And the crowd, the audience is just always so electric,” Ahanmisi told the PBA. “The event is so eventful. There are a lot of lights. The hosts are great, too. So, people at 3×3, they really make it worthwhile,” he added.

Jerrick Ahanmisi Showed Out

Jerrick Ahanmisi didn’t exactly light up the 3×3 scene right away, scoring a combined 10 points only in Gilas’ first three games—wins over Maldives and Thailand in the Qualifying Round, and a loss to top-seeded Mongolia in the Main Draw.

Then, facing elimination, the Dyip’s driving force finally erupted, firing 11 big points in a mild upset over Chinese Taipei. Ahanmisi continued his fiery run in the quarterfinals, adding another 8 points, albeit in a narrow, heartbreaking loss to South Korea that ended Gilas’ FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup campaign.

“I think it was really eye-opening for me. It was something that I never got a chance to do. It was my first time playing 3×3, first time playing international, first time playing for Gilas,” Ahanmisi added. “It was a lot of firsts for me, and I just tried to go into it with an open mind. And I think for my first time, it was okay. But I learned a lot from it, and I learned a lot of things that I can also bring to the table.”

Ready for the Bright Lights

Jerrick Ahanmisi certainly did okay in his first foray for Gilas at the 3×3 stage, and he most definitely showed he can bring a lot to the table. In fact, he showed more than enough to don that Gilas jersey again in that same setting, under those bright lights, and with those high stakes. And it looks like he is ready for more of that action.

“Honored to wear the colors of Gilas Pilipinas. Grateful for every minute, every lesson, every battle,” Ahanmisi wrote on his Instagram. “This isn’t the end of my 3×3 story—just part of the process. I’m stepping away sharper, hungrier, and more focused. I’ll be back. Better built. Ready for more.”

Imagine what more Jerrick Ahanmisi can do.
