The New York Knicks bounced back from a double-digit loss to the Detroit Pistons with an epic 108-106 come-from-behind victory over the Houston Rockets on Sunday’s NBA action.
Karl-Anthony Towns led the Knicks with 25 points and 7 rebounds, while OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson added 20 apiece. Brunson also hit a bucket to tie the game at 103 with 1:26 left before nailing the go-ahead jumper a possession after drawing an offensive foul on Kevin Durant.
Durant fired a game-high 30 points but was just 10-for-26 overall. Jabari Smith Jr. added 21 for the Rockets, who looked on their way to a sixth straight victory after erasing an early 13-point deficit and taking an 18-point cushion into the fourth quarter.
Knicks Continue Roller-Coaster Season
The victory was a huge one for the Knicks, who won for a seventh time in their last 10 games. Importantly, the win kept New York abreast of the red-hot Cleveland Cavaliers for the third seed in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs have won seven straight and are unbeaten since acquiring James Harden.
New York’s season has been marked by inconsistency, with stretches of fine play interspersed with periods of mediocrity, like the current seven-game stretch the Knicks are in, where every win has been followed by a loss. Before that, New York had won eight straight after absorbing four consecutive losses.
The Knicks will be looking to win consecutive games again on Tuesday when they take on the equally inconsistent Chicago Bulls. The Rockets, on the other hand, will try to bounce back on Wednesday when they face the Utah Jazz.
