Before the 2026–27 NBA season officially tips off tomorrow, several notable players have been waived by their respective teams and are now looking for a new home at the last minute.
With most rosters already taking shape, can these players still find a way to continue their NBA careers?
Dalton Knecht – Los Angeles Lakers
Selected 17th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, Dalton Knecht was unexpectedly waived by the team on Tuesday morning.
Through 139 games in the league, the 25-year-old has averaged 7.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game while shooting 46% from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc.
Despite receiving plenty of playing time during his rookie season, the 6-foot-6 guard/forward averaged just 10 minutes per game last season and frequently moved in and out of the rotation.
Kevin Porter Jr. – Milwaukee Bucks
After spending one and a half seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, Kevin Porter Jr. has been released by the team. Across 68 games with the franchise, KPJ averaged 14.9 points, 5.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.
He initially served as Damian Lillard’s backup guard when the star was still in Milwaukee. Injuries also became a concern, as he appeared in just 38 games last season.
He will now have to find another opportunity elsewhere rather than remain part of the Bucks’ rebuilding plans.
Dwight Powell – Dallas Mavericks
The longest-tenured Dallas Maverick has departed from the franchise, as 6-foot-9 center Dwight Powell looks to find an opportunity elsewhere in the league.
Powell joined Dallas in December 2014 as part of the trade that sent Rajon Rondo to the Mavericks. The 35-year-old center moved in and out of the rotation throughout his time with the franchise.
He played 763 of his 768 career games with Dallas, including 266 starts, while averaging 6.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game.
Jeremy Sochan – Portland Trail Blazers
Recent NBA champion Jeremy Sochan was waived by the Portland Trail Blazers a few days ago after joining the team during training camp.
Sochan, who was part of the New York Knicks team that won the 2026 NBA championship, had opted to join Portland during the offseason. The Polish national team player appeared in all four of the Trail Blazers’ preseason games, averaging 6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 12.3 minutes per game.
During his time with the Knicks, the 6-foot-9 power forward appeared in just 16 regular-season games, averaging 2.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.4 steals in 6.9 minutes per outing.
Bruce Brown – New York Knicks
The 2023 NBA champion Bruce Brown has been waived by the New York Knicks after appearing in just four of their five preseason games.
Brown, who played all 82 games for the Denver Nuggets last season, averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 24.4 minutes per game. During Denver’s championship campaign, the 6-foot-4 guard served as a valuable reserve alongside Jamal Murray and became an effective contributor off the bench.
Now, Brown and the other players on this list will be looking to sign with another team as they seek to extend their NBA careers and add another chapter to their basketball journeys.
