In a clash of titans, it was ONIC PH who asserted their mastery over Aurora Gaming, dismantling the defending world champions with a clinical 2-0 sweep during the third day of MPL Philippines S17 Week 3.
The opening game already looked set to be an exciting one with Agent Zero locking in a signature Benedetta pick. Edward delivered early, securing first blood over Kirk’s Uranus just a few minutes into the match. However, ONIC PH responded immediately during the first Turtle fight, not only securing the objective but also coming out with two crucial kills.
Savero Proves Why He’s a Game-Changer
ONIC’s import, Savero, proved to be the difference-maker in the clash, arriving at the perfect moment to give his team the upper hand and swing the lead to their side.
RORA found an opening shortly after, taking down Brusko just before the next Turtle fight. Despite being at a man disadvantage, ONIC still came out on top, with KINGKONG securing the objective and Savero picking off a kill against Yue.
Savero kept the pressure going. However, at the 5-minute mark, he was caught under the outer turret by both Domengkite and Light. But just as he was about to go down, Brusko landed a perfect counter-initiation with the Khaleed, turning the fight around. From that point, ONIC seized total control and widened the gap to as much as an 8k gold lead by the 10-minute mark.
In a desperate bid to stay alive, Aurora forced a contest at the Lord at the 16-minute mark, but the plan backfired. ONIC dismantled the play, punishing RORA with a four-man takedown and securing a dominant Game 1 win. Savero was undoubtedly the MVP of the game, finishing with a 4-0-6 KDA while having a 100% kill participation rate.
While the opener was completely one-sided, Game 2 lived up to the hype as both squads traded blows early on. The game remained fairly even after a series of clashes, with RORA holding the lead on the scoreboard while ONIC had the advantage in gold.
The breaking point arrived at the first Lord. While Aurora initially seemed to hold the upper hand, KINGKONG shut them down by finding a key takedown on Light. This sequence handed ONIC both the objective and the lead. From there, the Super Family never looked back, relentlessly extending their advantage until they closed out the 2-0 sweep.
ONIC Turning It Around
This marked a significant turnaround for ONIC after struggling in the early weeks, where they dropped a close 1-2 match against the Falcons and suffered a sweep at the hands of TNC. They have now strung together two straight wins and climbed to third place in the standings.
Savero, meanwhile, continues to solidify his place in the league. Following a high-impact showing against AP.Bren, the Indonesian star leveled up today with a 9-1-9 KDA, earning a well-deserved Match MVP. With his recent surge in form, he has made it clear that the Super Family remains a legitimate championship threat.
