For the first time in tournament history, no Filipino team will reach the top four of the Games of the Future (GOTF) after Team Falcons PH—composed mostly of the 2024 GOTF champions—suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Aurora Gaming on August 7 in Astana, Kazakhstan.
New Threat for PH
Led by Filipino head coach Neil “Midnight” De Guzman, the Turkish powerhouse delivered another heavy blow to Philippine esports. Just weeks after sweeping Team Liquid PH, 2-0, at the 2026 Mid-Season Cup, they struck again, eliminating the lone Philippine representatives with a statement 2-1 victory in the 2026 GOTF quarterfinals. They have now beaten both of the top two finishers from MPL Philippines Season 17.
The 2025 GOTF runner-up set the tone in Game 1. Even with a close kill count, Aurora Gaming made the opener look one-sided through total map dominance and complete control of neutral objectives. The Filipinos struggled to respond as Aurora expanded their lead after the 10-minute mark and eventually sealed the win in 15 minutes with a triple kill from Tienzy on Harley.
Falcons PH, however, punched back in Game 2. The Filipinos dictated the pace early and stayed in control for most of the fight. At the 10-minute mark, they found a crucial pickoff against the enemy exp-laner, giving them the opening to close out Game 2 and force a decider.
Team Falcons’ Struggles Continue
Game 3 was unlike the first two, with the decider going the full distance. While Aurora held the upper hand in most skirmishes, Falcons PH showed resilience, managing the deficit and staying within striking distance. The Filipinos narrowly avoided disaster after losing three members during a 20-minute team fight. Though they conceded the lord, they extended the game by finding a key pickoff against the enemy roamer.
It all came down to a final Lord clash at the 25-minute mark, where Aurora eliminated both SuperMarco and Hadji. With that advantage, the Turkish squad closed out the series and advanced to the semifinals.
The latest meta continues to challenge Philippine teams on the global stage. The 2025 MSC champion Team Liquid PH failed to win a single game in their 2026 MSC title defense, suffering a devastating early exit in the group stage. Meanwhile, Team Falcons PH fell just short of a podium finish at MSC with a fourth-place run and followed it up with a 5th–8th finish at GOTF 2026.
