The Terrafirma Dyip finished the PBA Governors’ Cup with a 149-117 blowout of the Titan Ultra Giant Risers. With the win, Terrafirma notched its fifth victory of the conference, the most in the team’s Season 50 campaign. The loss is Titan Ultra’s tenth in this tournament.
What Happened?
Terrafirma wasted no time seizing control, going off for 47 points in the opening frame to Titan Ultra’s 26 as Juami Tiongson caught fire with 18 early points and Maverick Ahanmisi added 10. But the Giant Risers rose up in the second with Von Pessumal firing 14 points in a 39-29 quarter that cut the lead to 76-65 heading into intermission.
Both teams got into a rhythm in the third canto, with Titan Ultra scoring 29 and Terrafirma adding 33 to its total to take a 109-94 bubble into the final frame. The last quarter was all Dyip as the second stringers dropped 40 more while holding the Giant Risers to 23.
Who Stood Out?
Tiongson ended Season 50 with an efficient 30-piece spiked by 4 assists and 2 steals on 6-for-10 shooting from downtown. Ahanmisi, who is set to become a free agent, gave a loud audition to the rest of the league with an 18-point, 10-rebound, 14-assist triple-double to back up his backcourt mate.
Titan Ultra, on the other hand, saw Pessumal fire a Season 50-best 26 markers highlighted by three triples and three fours. Tirell Brown II, meanwhile, added 24 points and 10 assists to cap off a productive conference in the PBA.
3 Keys to the Game
- Strong start. This game was over almost in the first quarter as Tiongson got hot early. Powered by the one-time champ’s explosion and Ahanmisi’s playmaking, Terrafirma quickly seized control and never let it go.
- Transition play. Terrafirma went pedal to the metal the entire game and got easy points as a result. In all, the Dyip scored 59 fastbreak points, while Titan Ultra had just 18.
- Bench play. Both teams’ starting units essentially played to a draw, but Terrafirma’s second stringers proved more prolific in this game, outscoring their counterparts, 69-44. The Dyip’s bench was particularly on point in the final frame, where they finished the job.
